How Teachers teach in Rural India?

I recently saw a video in Facebook and as we do usually I too just clicked on it and watched it casually keeping myself relaxed on my chair. The video was titled , "How teachers teach in rural India-sad". At first I just thought the there will be a error with the mode of teaching, which means instead of explaining the concept the teacher might be just reading the book. This is what happening in most of the schools in rural India where the teacher himself/herself lack the essential knowledge to teach. They just take it as a profession to earn for their living. But when I saw the video I was shocked even more, the teacher even doesn't know the spelling of Sunday and she teaches it as "Sande".
Who is the one who is supposed to be blamed? Even after 63 years of Independence we are still asking for our basic needs. Is this what the so called right to education. We had many great teachers who brought many bright students into light. But when I look into this video, I really worry whether we will lose some bright mind in that group who could change the entire world.

Baba Ramdev - Good or Bad !!!

Popularity gained over night is something which I have seen in movies and read in books. Probably people who took sports and acting as a career can be given exception to the above said statement. But now we could able to see many such incidents happening all of a sudden all in the name of the so called 'Patriotism'. Are they really patriotic or just taking advantage of the trigger of a loaded gun. The one who is now in the headlines is the yoga guru Baba Ramdev. The one who is familiar only to particular group of people or in a particular region is now talk of the entire nation. Not only in the media, he is also topping the search trends in leading search engines.
Before supporting someone blindly, it is always better to know something about the motto behind him. The entire nation supported Anna Hazare on his fasting to bring the Lokpal bill. There was no difference of opinion among the people or media during his fast and the entire nation supported him wholeheartedly to fight against corruption. But what is the problem exactly with this yoga guru? Why there is a difference of opinion among people and media in his concern? Whether this person is really worried about the present scenario in the country or trying to get some fame for his personal benefits? Possibly the question for many of us and I hope that's why many of you are reading this article. What exactly is his demands? He just have a list of demands and very important among them is bringing back the black money slashed in foreign banks, demonetization of Rs.500 and Rs.1000, death penalty for corruption etc., How come death penalty for corrupted is practically possible. May be you will think that it will create some fear among the corrupted to do so. But what will happen if it is misused? We have several cases where wrong cases are filed on sincere officers by the politicians to remove him from the power as he would have been a barrier for them to fulfill their needs. Leaving the other demands, bringing the black money slashed in foreign banks is a demand in need. I hope the entire nation will support this demand, but is this person making use of the demand for his political outfit. Is he backed by certain parties to make use of him in the next election?
 Looking Back into the History
When Anna Hazare fought against the government to bring the lokpal, I surfed back into his history and it was incredible and this made many of us to come forward and believe him from the heart and made us to accept him as a living Gandhi. But the condition is not same in the case of Baba Ramdev. When I surfed to look back into his history, it was shocking. Let me list out below some of the shocking information's which I came to know about him,
1. I have read that one who gives up everything is called a Sanyasi, but this Sanyasi has lot of institutions under him. Patanjali Ayurved College, Patanjali Chikitsalaya, Yog Gram, Go-Shala, Patanjali Herbal Botanical Garden, Organic Agriculture Farm, Patanjali Food and Herbal product limited are few to be noted. He also runs a television channel named Aaastha Tv. So can we call him a corporate sanyasi?
2. He is a billionaire and everything is earned from the people. It is said that he charges Rs.50,000 for teaching yoga.
3. He got into a controversy of using animal parts in his ayurvedic medicine manufactured from his company.
4. He violated labour law in his own company by paying minimum wages.
5. He protested to stop sex education and to make yoga the alternative. (Hope he doesn't know the reason behind high AIDS patients in India).
6. He claimed that he can cure AIDS and Cancer through his Yoga and ayurvedic medicine manufactured from his company.
7. He had a contradicting view against legalizing homosexuality in India. ( I suggest him to know the science behind homosexuality).
Is this too a move for fame?
From the incidents in the past, it is very clear that he always tried to do something to attain fame. Even his support to Anna Hazare too may have such a reason behind. Anna Hazare didn't have any political back up to start his fast, but the people joined him in large. But he started with the political back up which is well know to all of us. Finally his recent statement to train youngsters to form a military simply shows that it is going to spoil the harmony. I think Anna Hazare and his team might be well aware about him and just to stop difference of opinion for a common problem they might have supported. Hope their support is for the problem and not him particularly.
Do I support?
Yes, I do support the prime motto of bringing back the black money.Hope the entire nation supports the cause and I ask you to do so. But I am very clear that I am not supporting the yoga guru and his political outfit.
Verdict
Whoever the person may be, I support for the noble cause and not the person in particular. Well, what is my final point. Is he good or bad? It is you who have to decide.

Note: Controversies about him in the past is read by me in various articles.

DMK and AIADMK Election Manifesto 2011 – Will these freebies improve the quality of life in Tamil Nadu?

The temperature in Tamil Nadu is increasing, not just because of the arrival of summer but also because of the upcoming state assembly elections. The heat is increasing drastically among the political parties as the polling day is not too far. The present heat felt is not only because of the short span of canvassing given to the parties, but also the optimum measures taken by the election commission to curb malpractices which are against the rules and regulations of the commission. With all these factors under consideration and futuristic plans to get the throne, both the ruling party (DMK) and opposition (AIADMK) have declared their election manifesto’s for the upcoming assembly elections.
 Before analyzing the pros and cons of the manifestos, let us first see the short summary of manifesto ‘as declared by the two major shareholders of the election;
DMK and AIADMK Election  Manifesto
DMK Election Manifesto 2011
35kg free rice to poor per month, free wet grinder or mixie to women depending on their choice, free laptops to first year students (BC, MBC, SC, ST) pursuing professional degrees from government and government aided colleges, free power supply to be extended to horticulture and coconut farming, free bus passes to senior citizens aged 60 and above, hike in old age pension to Rs.750, new metro rail projects in Coimbatore and Madurai, financial assistance under Kalaignar housing scheme will be increased to Rs.1,00,000, absorbing interest for education loans will be considered, 200 units of free power to handloom weavers.
AIADMK Election Manifesto 2011
20 free rice per month to all family card holders along with 20 litres of purified drinking water, free wet grinder or mixie or fan to women depending on their choice, four grams of gold along with Rs.25, 000 as assistance for marriage and this assistance will be extended to Rs.50,000 for those beneficiaries holding a diploma or a degree, 6 months maternity  along with Rs.12,000 assistance and bank loan up to Rs.10 lakh with 25% subsidy for self-help groups, ‘Green House’ would be given to BPL families which will be powered by solar energy, 3 cents of land to poor, free uniform and shoes to students, scholarships to higher secondary students, free laptops to all students pursuing higher studies, mobile hospitals and telemedicine centers in villages, monorail projects, 5000 MW power producing projects to curb power loss, cable TV network to be brought under government, special forces to protect school students, theft in houses etc.,
Looking back into the past
Free television and Rs.1 a kg of rise was the highlight of the previous election. Though they implemented there was huge effects in general life as a result of it. Though the government says that the present scheme of giving rise at the low cost is applicable to all family card holders, the actual beneficiaries are the people who live below the poverty line and earn on daily basis. To them this scheme is actually a one which is supposed to be appreciated, but the quality of rice made people who belong to the middle class to move outside. Smuggling of rice has been found. Cost of rice in shops moved up, though there are several other reasons for the inflation, the poor administration is one of the main reasons. Secondly, I don’t find any logical reason to give televisions as television have become a part of day to day life and almost all owned it before the scheme was announced too. With the implementation of the scheme an additional TV in bedroom or television in shops has become a trend. Several malpractices among the local politicians were also seen during the distribution.
Among the schemes introduced the 108 service which is actually adopted from Andhra Pradesh is the best of them and was directly helpful to the people, the medical scheme too is a welcome one  (though it had some personal benefits) but the same could have be modified better, free house under Kalaignar housing scheme is also is good scheme, but no steps were taken to maintain the cost of bricks which suddenly increased in cost putting some extra burden to the people, especially to the middle class.
What is the need for freebies?
Both DMK and AIADMK are clashing each other even in their manifesto providing galore of freebies. But what exactly is need for freebies is a billion dollar question. Fans, mixie or grinder is now a part of household except BPL families. However they can survive without this too, instead the same money can be utilized for welfare activities and curbing inflation in food products. I hope it will be an educational laptop which may be given to students, not actually having great features which we usually buy for Rs.25, 000 or above. If they are actually interested in giving laptops to increase the quality of education and giving some exposure to students, digital library can be opened in every village with access to internet. Probably this may useful to the students and will also have some employment opportunities.
Considering both the manifesto’s the AIADMK manifesto has some development measures compared with the DMK which is mainly focused on freebies which the common man not required to survive. Green House scheme is an innovative one, steps to stop the power cut problems is a welcome note which actually was not addressed by the DMK; schemes to empower women and education, mobile hospitals and telemedicine centers are few which will be directly useful to the people.
Stress given by the AIADMKDMK manifesto.
Verdict
Now it’s the time for us to decide whom we should opt as our ‘REPRESENTATIVES’.  This is just an analysis based on the manifesto and it is you who have to decide depending on your experience so for with your representative and choose the right.

Cash for Votes – Not Just For People Alone

The assembly elections for three states Tamil Nadu, West Bengal and Kerala are proposed to be conducted on April 13, 2011. The election commission is taking various measures to suppress cash and gifts in exchange of votes. It is also believed that sudden announcement of the election commission to finish the elections quickly may help to avoid the cash for vote to some extent. If this is the condition here, the present Wikileaks exposures have rocked the parliament.
According to Wikileaks, the ruling Congress party has bribed MPs to vote in favor of them during the confidence vote in July 2008 for the Nuke deal to be cleared. It also exposed that the congress party leader Kamal Nath who was the minister of Commerce and Industry offered small planes as bribes for those MPs who are willing to vote in favor of them.
The BJP and the left have protested against this in Parliament and demanded the immediate resignation of the government.
But what makes me to think in this concern is, the same have been brought into the notice of people by the media channels where the video footage of a MP trying to bribe with cash in the parliament had been telecasted. Most of them very well aware that the same happened during the confidence vote, but why now the heat is spreading after the Wikileak exposure. Are the opposition really want to suppress the corruption and bring back democracy or just they want to keep the heat on opposition along with the other scams?
Who is actually interested in people? Day by day such corruptions and scams lies on the front page of the newspaper and headlines of the news channel. But when time moves on people too forget, is this why the opposition wants to keep the heat on the ruling party? When a cricket team loses the captain is forced to come out of his captaincy in spite of his individual performance, but is this same in politics. I don’t think so. Nobody is ready to take the responsibility.
The only solution is that we people should know how to tackle it. You may ask whether it is possible to tackle. Definitely yes and the revolution in gulf countries is an example. We have our duty to vote which actually decides their fate. This is the only time when we can push those corrupt leaders out of the Parliament. Keep these incidents in mind and vote rightly during the elections.
